Ashtanga Yoga: Who was Phattabi Jois?



Phattabi Jois was a world-renowned yoga teacher who was responsible for popularizing the style of yoga known as Ashtanga Yoga.


He was born in Karnataka, India in 1915 and died in 2009. Jois began practicing yoga at the age of 12 and went on to study under the tutelage of Krishnamacharya. He later opened his own yoga school in Mysore, India where he taught thousands of students from all over the world. Jois was also instrumental in bringing Ashtanga Yoga to the West, where it has now become one of the most popular styles of yoga practiced today.

This is a school that offers Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga classes for all levels, as well as workshops and teacher trainings in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.

The center also offers Ayurveda consultations, Reiki healing sessions, massage therapy sessions, Pranayama breathing classes, and meditation instruction for beginners to advanced practitioners.Unlike a few different types of yoga, Ashtanga is intended to initiate lavish perspiring, which Mr. Jois said was important to purify the body.

The school of has been around for many centuries and has been practiced by millions of people all over the world. The practice is based on the idea that you should not just do asanas, but also have a strong foundation in the yoga philosophy.
