Jin: knowing, compassionate person
Shin: creator
Jyutsu: art
Jin Shin Jyutsu “The Art of the Creator through the person of compassion.” is a Japanese form of energy medicine that uses gentle touch techniques to balance and restore the flow of energy in the body. This healing art that uses the body's energy pathways to harmonise ourselves and promote healing. By using gentle touch, we can help to re-balance our own energies and improve our overall health and wellbeing.
Jin Shin Jyutsu is based on the idea that vital life force energy travels through predictable pathways in the body. In Chinese culture, this energy known as qi affects people’s physical and emotional experiences.
Jin Shin is often described as being similar to acupuncture, except that instead of needles, Jin Shin practitioners use their fingers. Also, unlike traditional Chinese Medicine, Jin Shin does not involve herbal remedies. Instead, Jin Shin relies on the practitioner's own intuition and experience to determine the appropriate treatment.
In shin Jyutsu practitioners do not attempt to manipulate or adjust a client's physical body. Instead, they place their hands on specific points on the body to facilitate energy flow. The practitioner then focuses his attention on the area where he feels the most tension or pain. He may also feel the presence of chi (energy) in the area.
There are 26 safety energy locks in the human body. When there is an energy block in any of these areas, it causes symptoms as alerts. For example, if you have a headache, your neck will be stiff. If you have a backache, your lower back will be tense. If you have shoulder pain, your upper arm will be tight.
For thousands of years, ancient peoples knew about their own body's healing power. They didn't need doctors or hospitals. However, with each succeeding generation, this awareness became less and less prominent until it was almost completely lost.
A Brief History of Jin Shin Jyutsu
Jiro Murai rediscovered and researched the art of self-healing early in the twentieth century, following his own recovery from illness. By the age of 26, he was seriously ill and was first treated by doctors but his condition only worsened. After asking his family to carry him to their mountain cabin and leaving him alone for seven days, he asked them to return for his recovery on the eighth day. During this time, he fasted and meditated while practising various finger postures.
His body grew colder, but on the seventh day he felt as if he had been lifted out of a deep freeze and thrown into a blazing furnace. When that intense heat subsided, his whole being was filled with serenity and peace.
As Murai’s understanding of the Art deepened, the meaning of the name Jin Shin Jyutsu evolved, He transcribed his knowledge and passed it on to students Kato Sensei and Mary Burmeister. Thus Jin Shin Jyutsu was given the name of the “The Art of the Creator through the person of compassion.”
Mary Burmeister brought the art of Jin Shin Jyutsu to the Western world, making it accessible again.
Mary Iino (Mary’s maiden name), born in Seattle, Washington, in 1918, arrived in Japan late 1940's to serve as a translator and study diplomacy. Highly intelligent and dedicated, Mary hoped to attend a Japanese-language university. She also sought to overcome the prejudice that was directed against her family and other Japanese-Americans in Seattle.
After years of training new practitioners, she opened her own Jin Shin Jyutsu center in Arizona, which is now run by her son.
Burmeister brought the practice of physiognomy to America, where it has since spread worldwide.
Potential Benefits of Jin Shin Jyutsu
In the world of Jin Shin Jyutsu, there are many benefits that you can expect from the treatment.
One of the primary benefits of using Jin Shin Jyutsu techniques is that they help to relieve stress. Stress is a major contributor to the development of many diseases. It is important to learn how to relax so that we can avoid the negative effects of stress.
Another benefit of Jin Shin Jyuton is that it helps us to release emotional blocks. Emotional blocks cause us to experience negative feelings such as anger, anxiety, depression, fear, and worry. These feelings create tension within our bodies and minds. The more we hold onto these feelings, the greater the physical and mental toll.
It is possible to use Jin Shin Jyutsu for many different purposes. Some of the most common uses include:
• To improve health and well-being
• To promote healing after surgery or injury
• To decrease pain
• To increase energy levels
• To enhance athletic performance
• To treat insomnia
Jin Shin Jyutsu is noninvasive and doesn't require any downtime. This means you can begin seeing results immediately, without having to worry about how long it will take for your body to recover. The treatment itself is designed to work alongside your body's natural processes, and it can help you achieve your goals in a way that feels amazing.
Second, the treatment is holistic. It's not just about treating your symptoms; it also helps you feel more balanced in your life overall by bringing greater harmony between mind and body. For example, if you're experiencing pain in one area of your body but not another (like migraines), Jin Shin Jyutsu can help bring balance back to both areas so they function better together as a whole.
It's safe. The technique is based on ancient wisdom and uses no needles, herbs, or drugs. Instead, it focuses on using the body's own innate ability to heal itself.
The 26 Energy Locks
The safety energy locks or SELs are specific points on the body which are located along energy pathways called meridians. These pathways carry life force energy throughout the body. Each lock represents one of the 26 major energy centres within the body.
When a person has a problem, the energy pathways become blocked. As a result, the energy becomes stagnant and the person begins to suffer from various ailments. Jin Shin Jyutsu helps to unblock these pathways by stimulating them with light pressure.
When a person has a problem with a particular organ system, the energy pathway leading to that organ is usually blocked. Jin Shin Jyutsu works directly on these pathways to release the blockage and allow the energy to move freely again.
